I purchased a 2019 Toyota Highlander three years ago and eight weeks ago. The transmission failed at 68,000 miles. When I started looking around on Toyota nation website as well as others I see that Toyota is having a big problem with their UA 80 transmissions. They previously issued a recall for the 2017 and 2018 models but they haven't for anything from 2019 to 2022. I spoke to the service manager at the dealership who was rude and then called corporate. They opened a case and within the next seven weeks, they barely returned phone calls and kept telling me that they've been trying to get a hold of her service manager who has been unavailable. Once it was confirmed, they reached the service manager , corporate had told me that they still needed information from the service manager, but we have been unable to reach him in the last four or five days. As soon as I got off the phone with them, I called and immediately spoke with the service manager. I'm not sure what's going on, but based on the amount of complaints, they've got a huge problem. And this doesn't just include the Toyota Highlander. The 8 speed UA 80 transmission was installed and other Toyota models as well. The cost of place in a transmission is $9500 plus tax. After they made me wait seven weeks, they told me that they couldn't help me at all with it. The only bright spot throughout this complete experience was a pleasant woman name Angie, who works in the service department. Other than that, it's obvious that what was once a reliable brand is no longer. Also keep in mind that if your current Toyota owner and you don't get your oil changes done at the dealership good luck with being able to hold them accountable. I'm also not quite sure why when they knew they had problems with the transmissions they kept using them. It's not right

Art Palazzo is an excellent service writer. Very patient and seemed pretty knowledgeable, not a small thing with todays deluge of technology ( argh!). By happenstance, I had him help me previously with the starting battery issue in my 2024 Prius Prime. He put in extra effort to get it replaced under warranty should not have had to do it with known starting battery issues, so I was extra appreciative of his efforts. It would help a lot if Toyota used a heavier battery capable of surviving more than a week of two of inactivity, with the significant parasitic drain of modern, over-teched vehicles, and a better upfront notice of the issue and a MUCH better owners manual. it would help.
